About Face

“When i was a little girl, i would draw women’s faces on grade six pad paper and pretend they are contestant from beauty pagents. With my box of crayons, i would color the eyes, lips and cheeks. Then my 3 sisters will gamely judge who’s the winner. I would also sneak into mommy’s makeup and experimented it on them. They were very patient and encouranged me in what i do”

Mel Cruz is a degree hoder of Commerce major in Economics from the University of Santo Tomas. She lead a corporate life but the passion to bring out beauty in women is still within her.

A self-taught makeup artist since 2004, she tried her hand at professional makeup when she accepted work for entourage and brides who are relatives of her friends. in 2008, earned her certificate from Wella Philippines for Hair Upstyling. During the same year, she got her certificate in Makeup during her one-on-one Bridal Makeup workshop with Lou Bunyi of Emphasis Salon.

In between weddings, she juggles working for fashion magazines as well as ramp incidentally she’s the favorite of both high caliber fashion designer Edgar Allan and Jan Antonio Garcia in their shows.

She also has gigs with A Thousand Thousand Oaks, an image consultancy firm owned by Ms. Patty Betita, a Former Binibining Pilipinas beauty where Mel taught Basic Makeup Applicaton to employees of various corporation using the modules she herself developed.

Her forte is in opening up the eyes to brighten up the faces and covering flaws and imperfections. She gives personal touch to every bride she encounters, and understands their needs. Most of all, listens and is open to feedback from clients.
