Filipino Wedding Traditions
Marriage in the Philippines is more than just an unforgettable moment. It shows the true commitment of couple joined together to share each other for the rest of time. Like other cultures, Filipinos are also rich in wedding traditions. These traditions originated from the Spaniards who colonized the Philippines during its early years.
The elders believe that going through the whole ceremony will bless the couple with a long lasting marriage. Taking part of the union of both bride and groom are the sponsors. The sponsors are there to serve as support and guidance to the couple.
There are also items that are commonly seen in a traditional Filipino Wedding. Some of which are the coins that symbolize prosperity, cord to bind the couple, and the veil. All of which serve as good luck charms to the newlyweds. Filipino weddings are also known to finish longer than the typical straight to the “I do” part of the Western culture. This makes it a more memorable for the couple and to everyone who attended the ceremony.
The Filipino wedding tradition is a highlight to their rich culture and is expected to be practiced in the generations to come. Although practicality comes into mind these days, many still believe in the solemnity of the Filipino wedding ceremony.
